Hurrah, a picture of the beauty that is Immune System Tower Defence in its wonderfully far from finished state. A bunch of turrets firing drug needles at EVIL viruses >=O It’s extremely late and I have achieved nothing useful. Tried to work on the Tower Defence project for school, but lacked any direction. So instead I added the probably will never be used option for a tower to prefer its target over another one that it would choose otherwise if it were checking, as well as fixing up some animation. Hurrah. So we have turrets that you have fairly good control over I guess, but they still can’t actually hit anything (I’ve built collisionsssss in though, they have yet to be applied) let alone damage anything. Still have no idea what method should be used for spawning the evil viruses and shit you must defeat (it had to be somewhat educational). The art for one enemy and one turret is partially finished, no background art, no UI, no menus or anything, and it’s almost term 3. Still need to build all that shit, and a way for a player to interact with the game. And then balance turrets and spawning etc so the gameplay isn’t ridiculously easy or hard and can’t be exploited.
On the bright side, the “engine” is almost finished. This is the main part of the game, which is what we put our towers and enemies into, and it draws them on the screen for us and handles the way they can interact or behave. So the rest of the game apart from art and the spawner shouldn’t be too hard really. The hard bits have been getting images to rotate nicely with C# and getting enemies to move along smooth curves made from arbitrary points, the worst part being getting them to move at (relatively) constant speed. Unfortunately you can’t just say “Ok move 10 pixels down this curve” much to my frustration. Also have a basic animation system where it is very easy to export frame animations from Flash and pop them straight into the game, though to get things to rotate properly some editing is usually needed aka shifting stuff around so its centre is the centre of the image and also centre of rotation. Animations can be played back in a variety of ways too :D
Still don’t know shit about sound so there will probably not be much to hear in the final game, if its ever done >.<
So I am quite proud of what I’ve accomplished, as this is all new territory for me, and getting a system up and running that can have things put in and out of it is quite different from anything else I’ve had a go at before like Blackjack or my shitty solar system flying space game thing which is really simple in comparison apart from getting those goddamn stars to work D:
Merry Christmas anyone who pays attention to my blog, who probably noticed I never actually post anything.
