May as well post a Pathogen Tower Defence post mortem or whatever. Game was 100% completed by the end of the year, and I even managed to get the required paperwork done so will hopefully actually get the grades, hurrah.
Behold, the game in its finished state.
MENU
With a nice little title and colours and things, added the touch of little viruses and things travelling across the screen. Instructions were also added, with a kind of a storyline set up I guess, but not. A torn letter from Pvt. Rookie about how they can’t hold off the assault much longer and are going to try to retreat to the heart, and then a whole bunch of stuff about your Cardiac Defence Abstraction System, where I made up some bullshit to explain how you have an interface and can speed up time etc.
GAME
The game has now been improved quite a lot.
Each tower can be UPGRADED to significantly increase its effectiveness at a largish cost of protein. Towers can now be SOLD for a minor protein refund. Curse you entropy! Or whatever.
HOTKEYS have been added, so now you can press W to go to the next wave, S to toggle speed up, A to toggle having your controllable turret firing constantly or not, and D to deselect a turret. This is a lot more convenient than having to click the damn buttons every time, the speed hotkey being particularly useful.
And then we have a redo of the LEVEL, the game still only has one level/track, but now it is a lot better imo, no more tiny areas where you only just can’t fit a turret, and the UI now fits with the background properly. I think it works a lot better than the old level, which was just a spamfest.
Another addition is LOSING CONDITIONS. You can actually run out of health and lose the game. There is no winning because we’re bastards. Which brings me to…
CREDITS
Got a nice scrolling credits form going, which comes with some statistics about how you did in the game. Shows the magnitude of the explosion of your heart, which is calculated from how big your negative health is. This means if you have like 500 health and one thing gets through and does 501 damage, you have a small magnitude, and you obviously if it does like 5000 then yeah. Not really useful. And some informations on how much money you got and things you killed overall, as well as a breakdown of each type just for funsss.
So yeah, game over, done and dusted, finished. Which is alright because I get bored of making a game halfway through :)
The game is pretty much bugless as far as I know, only problems really are the interface which is still a bit ugly, but oh well.
If anyone wants to play my game (its not particularly fun really, for me anyway, might be just cause I’ve played it way too much than I would want to) then yeah. I’m here. :D
So thats pretty much it, hurray, end of an era. Year later, one TD game, a lot of paperwork bullshit, credits. Yay!
